Getting to Lopez Island

Lopez Island is one of the larger islands of the San Juan Islands. You need to take a ferry from Anacortes to get there (unless you have a private boat or yacht). The ferry boats go to Lopez around 5 or 6 times a day. Click for the Ferry Schedule. On Friday and Sunday, the wait is particularly long so it is better to avoid these days unless you have reserved space on the ferry ahead of time. Click here for the reservation link. If you are part of a work party or visiting me on Lopez Island, you may park your car and walk on. Please send me an email at least two days before your visit with the time that you plan to catch the ferry so that I can meet the boat.

The trip from Seattle to the Anacortes Ferry Terminal takes about two hours. If the I-5 traffic is heavy, you need to allow more time. Also if you are planning to take your car across to Lopez Island, you should make a reservation. If you park near the ferry, you will have to walk some distance to get to the dock. If you park at March's Point Park 'n' Ride and take the SKAT bus, you will need to coordinate the schedules. Please send me an email if you need help in planning your trip.

If you are going alone to Lopez Island, it is helpful to bring water because there is no running water. There is a public shower at Lopez Village for a $2.00 donation. Otherwise, all you need to bring is your clothes and food. The market is well stocked and not too expensive so you can buy food on the island. There is a small store about three blocks from the cabin where you can be staples and small supplies of water. They also serve lunch during the summer. Be sure to pack plenty of warm clothes because it gets cold at night.
